What's in Pep powders?

  • GF Oat Milk

    The Maltose in Pep's proprietary low-fiber, low-fat Organic Gluten Free Oatmilk is the primary source of Carbohydrates in Pep nutrition systems. It consists of 2 molecules of glucose that are rapidly broken down and converted to glucose in the small intestine. This enzymatic process is critical in aiding digestion and makes glucose from maltose more bio-available than free Glucose alone.

  • Rice

    Pep's proprietary low-fiber organic pre-cooked white rice powder provides easily digestible complex carbs. Upon mixing with water it, its naturally occurring pre-gel amylopectin instantly creates a hydrogel structure. Hydrogel structures have been shown to enhance the rate of Gastric Emptying (GE), which is the rate at which food moves from stomach to small intestine, essentially speeding up digestion and help preventing fullness.

  • Sweet Potato

    Source of easily digestible complex carbohydrates and micronutrients such as beta carotene. Organic Sweet Potato introduces a small amount of protein. To aid in digestion of protein during racing and high-output efforts, Pep race products include relatively high levels of Vitamin B6.

  • Banana

    Source of easily digestible fast carbohydrates, including fructose and essential electrolyte Potassium.

  • Unrefined Cane Sugar

    Unrefined Organic Cane Sugar is the primary source of Fructose in Pep's nutrition systems. Fructose taps into a different digestion pathway compared to glucose, helping to prevent glucose digestion pathway overload.

  • Coconut Water

    Organic Coconut Water is the primary source of Natural electrolytes in Pep nutrition systems. Nearly all Potassium in Pep products comes from this natural source. The Potassium content in Pep's Organic Coconut water has been standardized so you can rely on the Potassium levels in Pep products to be accurate and consistent.

  • Marine Minerals

    All essentially electrolytes Magnesium and Calcium in Pep products come from natural Marine Minerals extracted from the pristine Irish Sea waters. Besides Magnesium and Calcium, there 72 other trace minerals. We believe this wholesome natural electrolyte source is superior in providing sustained energy and preventing cramping to lab-made electrolytes traditionally used in sports nutrition.

  • Himalayan Pink Salt

    Unrefined Himalayan Pink Salt is used as a source of electrolytes Sodium and Chloride. In Pep's products designed for racing and high-output efforts, the Sodium content is boosted by using premium Trisodium Citrate. The reason is that trying to get high levels of Sodium from Salt (which is Sodium Chloride) alone would inevitably mean high levels of Chloride would need to ingested as well, which can result in GI issues.

    Pep Nutrition systems include highly concentrated extracts of Organic Ginger to help reduce system inflammation, improve recovery and improve digestion. The 4:1 organic extract ensures maximum potency, as well as no off-flavor.

Meet the Founders

Pep Sports Nutrition was founded by husband and wife Lacy and Jan in September 2024. After 15 years of running our own company in the natural foods industry, we were looking for new business adventures. Just like many business ideas are born, we were inspired by the gaps in the sports nutrition solutions that we observed during our own training and racing.

The real impetus to start the business came when Jan started experimenting with his own sports nutrition. As a type 1 diabetic, he’s somewhat of a canary in the coal mine and proper carbohydrate fueling is vital. With an affinity to nerd out on nutrition and the knowledge in carbohydrate chemistry from his previous experience as a recipe developer, Jan dove deep into learning about all the science of how food is metabolized by our body to create energy during exercise.

He used that research to create over a hundred formulation iterations and eventually arrived at the version of Pep products available today. The results he observed in how his blood sugar, energy level, as well as recovery times improved made us excited to share our products with the world.
